NEOnatal Central-venous Line Observational study on Thrombosis (NEOCLOT): evaluation of a national guideline on management of neonatal catheter-related thrombosis
BACKGROUND In critically ill (preterm) neonates, central venous catheters (CVCs) are increasingly used for administration of medication or parenteral nutrition. A serious complication, however, is the development of catheter-related thrombosis (CVC-thrombosis), which may resolve by itself or cause severe complications. Due to lack of evidence, management of neonatal CVC-thrombosis varies among ...
متن کاملManagement of neonatal thrombosis.
Neonates have one of the highest risks for thromboembolism among pediatric patients. This risk is attributable to a combination of multiple genetic and acquired risk factors. Despite a significant number of these events being either life threatening or limb threatening, there is limited evidence on appropriate management strategy. Most of what is recommended is based on uncontrolled studies, ca...
متن کاملNeonatal ascending aorta thrombosis: A case report
Thrombotic events are very unusual in neonatal period. This congenital anomaly may be caused by certain risk factors such as polycythemia, perinatal asphyxia, septicemia, maternal diabetes, dehydration, and low cardiac output, or it may occur upon catheterization of central lines. A 20-day-old neonate was referred to our ward with primary signs of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCMP). Echocardiog...
متن کاملLessons from French National Guidelines on the treatment of venous thrombosis and central venous catheter thrombosis in cancer patients.
Increased prevalence of Venous thromboembolism (VTE), as defined by deep-vein thrombosis (DVT), central venous catheter (CVC) related thrombosis or pulmonary embolism (PE) in cancer patients has become a major therapeutic issue. Considering the epidemiology and each national recommendations on the treatment of VTE in cancer patients, we analysed guidelines implementation in clinical practice. T...
متن کاملUrokinase therapy in neonates with catheter related central venous thrombosis.
The results of fibrinolytic therapy with urokinase were evaluated in 26 neonates with catheter related central venous thrombosis. Complete thrombolysis could be achieved in 13 patients (50%), partial thrombolysis in 3 patients (12%). No effect was seen in 10 patients (38%). Therapy success was influenced by age, size and location of the thrombus. Coincidence of infection occurred in 16 patients...
